Welcome to “Lake Saladar”

The rains of recent days and yesterday’s downpour flooded access to two urbanisations.

The floods are attributed to massive downpours. But even with lighter rainfall, these streets still flood. The reason? – Maybe poor urban planning on ancient wetlands, in gullies and along ravines?

There have been heavier downpours than those over the last couple of days but yesterday’s rainfall left a maximum of 14 l/m2 in the urban core of the port.

On the Cap de la Nau road, next to the old Saladar wetland, access to the urbanisations were under water. Residents of the area have to paddle through a “lake” to reach their homes The entrance to the Las Olas urbanisation and the Cofitsa bungalows have accumulated a LOT of water.

But this is not a new problem.

The rains are not solely to blame. Javea suffers from structural problems that aggravate the risk of flooding. The same happens in Dénia. When it rains with a certain intensity, they always flood and the same roads are cut off time after time.

How to resolve this? – “Answers on a postcard” I suppose!
