Driver of the Vehicle in Last Year’s Fatal Collision with Local Cyclists Now Released on Bail!

For those who did not read yesterday’s post on the Javea Connect group….

On Friday 25th May, the Provincial Court of Valencia decreed for the driver of the car that killed 3 and seriously injured 2 local cyclists in May 2017, to be released on bail.

Mavi, the 29-year-old defendant, was sent to jail hours after being arrested last year where she tested positive at the time for alcohol and narcotic substances. She was arrested after the accident for an alleged crime of reckless homicide and three for serious injuries.

It is alleged that “Mavi does not remember anything”

The defendant  appealed for bail on 2 previous occasions but in both cases this was refused by the judge in the court of Gandia. Upon being rejected, she appealed to the Provincial Court of Valencia that has now decreed that bail be granted until the the trial takes place.

She was released on Friday, after paying a € 7,000 bail bond.

The trial will be delayed

The magistrate of Gandia will have to wait for the forensic reports of the two wounded victims to be submitted.  One of the victims, who was lucky to survive the collision, is still being treated for serious injuries. Once the judge has these documents will be passed to the the courts

News of this was discussed on our local Javea Connect group today and needless to say, it was not greeted with celebrations!! Sending our good wishes to Scott for his continuing recovery.
