The photo above is a section of the email, with the DGT and the Ministry of the Interior stamps, sent by criminals demanding the payment of alleged infractions from thousands of people.
The email is arriving in thousands of in-boxes, including police and journalists.
It is entitled “unpaid traffic” and the text warns that you have an unpaid traffic fine. “An unpaid traffic fine addressed to you or your vehicle has been identified in our system”.(“Se ha identificado en nuestro sistema una multa de tráfico no pagada dirigida a usted o a su vehículo”.)
It also warns that if you do not pay soon, the fine will be increased: “Please note that failure to pay this fine after (and an upcoming date) will result in an increase to 224.00 euros”. Below that is a supposed file number to lend credibility to the scam.
The fake DGT text ends with a recommendation: ‘we urge you to regularise this situation as soon as possible’. And it offers to do so by clicking on “Regularise this situation”.
It is from Vietnam
This link supposedly leads to consult the information related to the fine, but by clicking on it, the user is redirected to an external page unrelated to the DGT. If you fall for it and click on it, the criminals can already access personal data.
