Driver Responsible for Last Year’s Fatal Collision with Javea Cyclists Appeals For Release

Next Sunday marks a year since the tragic and fatal accident on the N-332 in Oliva, when a female driver, under the influence of drugs and alcohol, drove her car into a group of cyclists from Javea, taking the lives of 3 young men and severely injuring a further 2.

The 28 year old driver of the vehicle, who has been in prison without bail for the past year, has requested in an appeal to the provincial court of Valencia to be released awaiting trial.

According to Levante published yesterday, the woman’s lawyer alleges in the appeal that there is no risk of escape and that his client agrees to go every week to sign in at Gandia court. He also argues that the release of the girl would not cause “social alarm”. Those same arguments were used by the lawyer when he asked the head of the court number 2 of Gandia, which is the one that instructs the case, to leave her on provisional release.

The driver is charged with three crimes of reckless homicide (due to the death of Edu, José Antonio and Luis Alberto) plus two cases of injuries due to serious negligence ( Andrés and Scott who survived but are still recovering from their serious injuries) and another charge against road safety.
