Christmas.. Love It? … Or Are You Not A Twinkler??

by Loraine Gostling

I know we all don’t relish the season of goodwill which is about to enshroud us in tinsel, fairy lights, green growths all over the living room, advent calendars, excited little ankle-biters, mulled wine, roast chestnuts, copious amounts of chocolate in various disguises from Terry’s Oranges to Santa lollipops, crackers, large dome shaped fruit and brandy filled puddings, and of course the booze and the turkey that is too heavy to lift into the oven once the stuffing has been added to the huge tin about the size of the kitchen sink!

But I love it, always have and always will, despite my kids all being grown up and as yet, none have produced a new set of “Tiny Christmas Paper Rippers” to satisfy my December urges to go light up as many trees as possible and buy stupid amounts of novelty gifts to hide about the house in the run up to THE BIG DAY.

In Spain Christmas is different, but in the last 10 years, since I arrived, the Christmas Spirit seems to have increased, little by little,  and even though I think that the hustle and bustle of the run-up to December 25th in the UK will always be more exciting, we do, of course have Iceland ( the shop not the country 😉 ) which supplies the homesick Brits with all we need to make us feel at home.

Anyway, I thought I would watch out for Christmas stuff which may be a little on the unusual or “must have” side and keep you on your toes for the next few weeks before the carrot peeling begins and we have to do that once a year added frill by adding bacon bits to those brussel sprouts!

Here is a great one for those, who like me, prefer cheese to turkey any day………
