Javea Connect (and all the other local groups) were inundated with reports and photos of the destruction the recent floods have caused in the Marina Alta.
I arrived in Spain a few days after the Gota Fria in October 2007 but had not witnessed the awful event, I just saw the devastating results of it as we drove down from France. But in almost 12 years, this storm has been the worst I can recall.
The Mayor of Javea, Jose Chulvi has said that “it has it has been an important episode and in certain places in Javea, more than 330 liters have been collected in 12 hours, a figure that had not been registered in Javea for 62 years.” he says that “It has been an intense rain in an exceptional situation that has been concentrated especially in the area of the Arenal, an area that continues block off traffic and is difficult to access on foot. It will remain closed until the rains subside. “
In other areas, there have been buildings hit by lightning in the Cumbre del Sol and severe landslides up on Balcon-al-Mar. Ramblars, ( the land where it is intended to relocate Apasa) is severely flooded and the river Gorgos has burst its banks!
Campsites have been evacuated and Denia has many who have also had to leave their homes.
In the Arenal area, rainwater reached the top of vans!!
Reports of thunder shaking villas in Benissa and several landslides where walls have caved in and pools are dangerously close to sliding downhill onto roads or neighboring properties!
Similar to the fires of 2016, hundreds of people have been asking to join Javea Connect and as happened back then, there are always people ready to help their neighbours and the best always shines through in times such as this.
