Just before 2.am this morning, I was sitting typing away and suddenly felt like someone had tried to push the sofa from below me. It took a while to realise that it was not possible but even then the realisation did not hit me until I received a message from a friend saying power had gone out and she had been jolted in her bed.. and she was miles away from me! This was backed up by another friend in Benissa, so I knew it was really widespread.
I posted quickly on the Javea Connect group and it transpired that many people were wakened by this jolt and comments confirmed that it had been felt from Altea/Calpe along to Javea/Moraira/Teulada/Benissa and inland to Jalon Valley/Pedreguer/Gata and surrounding areas.
Then at just after 3am. 2 more smaller tremors were reported in Benissa, followed by another 2 a few minutes later.
So yes! It was definitely a quake…. LOOK….
There was a report just yesterday in the Express warning of earthquakes in Spain, although the geography was a little further south… read the report here
I daresay it will be all over the media in a few hours time, but for once, Javea Connect gets “a scoop”. I hope, however, that we have no repeats of the earth moving . Stay safe everyone.
