DAMA 2025 Street Arts, Movement and Action Festival

by JC Admin

On Saturday, May 10th, downtown Dénia will host the DAMA 2025 Street Arts, Movement and Action Festival

The programme includes workshops and performances in the Social Centre auditorium on Calle Marques de Campo and in the Plaza del Consell.

DAMA kicks off with a sensory improvisation workshop led by dancers, choreographers, and founders of the contemporary dance company EYAS Dance Project.

Programme

The workshop, open to the public and free of charge, will take place in two locations: from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in the Social Center auditorium, and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., participants will give a demonstration on C/ Marqués de Campo.

The workshop will use the Gaga Method, which explores movement through improvisational techniques, primarily focused on unlocking the body. This technique is used by members of Israel’s Batsheva Dance Company, although it is not solely focused on professional dancers; it is a practice that anyone can practice.

From Marqués de Campo, at 12:00, the Circolio Association offers a free family circus workshop with juggling and balancing acts. Parents, children, and adults will have a great time together practicing fun disciplines such as acrobatics, family acroports, juggling, and balancing acts led by artists from the Circus School. La Marina Social Club Denia.

And then there are two contemporary dance performances. At 13:00 p.m., the Sin Par Collective arrives with the piece “Mírala cara a cara.” Lara Misó and Wilma Puentes explore sevillana in their own language, eager to play, enjoy, and strip away all the solemnity.

And at 13:15 p.m., Jéssica Castellón presents “Don’t Take It Personal,” a creation that explores a dancer’s journey through diverse styles and cultures, without being tied to any one.

The programme resumes at 17:30 p.m. with the family-friendly street show “A la fresca” (Fresh Air), by Anna Confeti. “A la fresca” (Fresh Air) introduces three characters, along with a giant chair, who take to the streets to spend the afternoon. Everyday, surreal, and incredibly crazy situations turn into a laugh-filled show. The performance will begin in Marqués de Campo and end in Plaza del Consell, where the rest of the shows will take place.

At 18:30 p.m., the Dénia Dance Schools and Groups Showcase begins. Studio Patricia Sentí, the Fina Porta School, the Babylon School, Puri Bisquert Dansa and the Es.Mov Collective will offer the public a sample of their art and creativity.

At 19:30 p.m., the performance “Desplazamiento de la penumbra” (Deployment of the Penumbra) by dancer Lucía Moraleda and her partner Ignacio Fizona, members of the IT Dansa company, will follow. A reflection on life, death, and the process of transformation, a poetic and physical journey filled with emotion.

The closing performance of La Marina Lindy Hop will be held at 20.00.
