Description:

Getting the best financial advice is about more than financial expertise.

It is about:

  • Having someone you can rely on.
  • Knowing you are being kept up to date with financial information so that you get the best advice and great products.
  • Being spoken to in plain English rather than jargon, so you really understand what you are being advised to do.
  • Being confident that your adviser is using their knowledge and expertise to make sure you don’t miss any opportunities or fall into any tax traps.
  • Being open and honest so that you always know exactly what charges and fees you will pay.
  • Having a relationship you value.

At Scottsdale, everything starts and finishes with our relationship with you. Each and every one of our clients is different which means the advice and help we give you will be as individual as you are.

The aim is simple; to guide you through the financial implications, opportunities and pitfalls that living abroad brings.

We pride ourselves on tailoring our advice to meet the needs of individual clients and offering a full range of financial solutions; from simple off-the-shelf products to a carefully arranged mix of products tailored to achieve specific objectives. It all depends on you and your plans.

Retirement

If you are planning to retire, you may want to:

  • Invest your capital to produce an income.
  • Make a final payment to your existing pensions.
  • Find out the best way to take an income from the pension funds you have.
  • Make sure all your assets are set up so you get the best possible income.
  • Make sure that, if anything happens to you, your family will still receive an income, or capital, if that’s what they need.
  • Make sure that you don’t pay more tax than you need to.

Wealth

If you are building wealth, you may want to:

  • Get a great deal on a mortgage or re-mortgage.
  • Protect yourself and your family from the financial effects of ill health or death.
  • Review your existing assets to make sure you are taking advantage of all tax breaks.
  • Build a pensions portfolio.
  • Invest capital to achieve growth.
  • Make sure that you don’t pay more tax than you need to.

The importance of choosing the right Financial Adviser

With Brexit looming and no agreement having been made for the financial services sector, now, more than ever, potential clients are looking for an adviser who is as qualified and experienced as the adviser they used in the UK. UK advisers and investment managers are writing to clients right now to let them know that they can no longer advise them. If you are one of these people, you will want to be sure that the new adviser you choose can offer you qualified advice and has the UK advice experience to be able to discuss your UK products.

In addition to the Level 4 diploma (DipPFS) from the Personal Finance Society (PFS) and the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) as a minimum, it’s also important that your adviser is a member of the European Financial Planning Association (EFPA), España. This gives you the confidence that the EFPA have performed the due diligence to ensure that the adviser is qualified in their country of origin and also has committed to keeping their knowledge up to date. Search here https://www.efpa.es/busca-tu-asesor-financiero-certificadojust add the surname of the adviser under “Premier apellido” or your town where it says “Lugar”.

If you are looking for pension advice, you may also want your adviser to show qualifications and experience in this area.

Where to look?

If you want to know if the adviser has worked in the UK, so consequently has the experience you need, search the FCA Register https://register.fca.org.uk/s/ here you will be able to see what role(s) they performed and with which companies. If they do not appear, it’s likely that they have no UK experience.

If you want to check what Personal Finance Society Qualifications they hold, search the member with the PFS https://www.thepfs.org/membership/member-search/. If they don’t appear, it’s likely that they do not hold the qualification. If they appear but with no qualification, they are a member but are not qualified. There are other routes to obtain level 4 qualifications; the London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF) https://www.libf.ac.uk/ there is no members search facility so you would have to contact them to check out a member’s qualifications, The Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) https://www.cisi.org/cisiweb2/cisi-website/join-us/cisi-member-directory you can search a member but it does not show their qualifications.

You can check your nearest qualified adviser at this link:- https://www.thepfs.org/yourmoney/find-an-adviser/

Once you have done your search, choose an adviser and click on “show full profile”. This will tell you what qualifications the adviser has in detail and also whether they hold a “Statement of Professional Standing” (SPS). This confirms that they are committed to keeping up to date on all financial issues pertinent to giving full financial planning advice.
