A new canine police officer

“Kosmo” will be Javea’s first police dog

The Local Police have taken steps to create a canine unit to work in the detection of drugs.

The first member of this unit will be “Kosmo”, a German Shepherd who has demonstrated his aptitude for training as a police dog.

The Town Hall and his owner have signed an agreement for the transfer of the dog, who is now in the care of a police officer and who will shortly begin to be trained to develop his sense of smell in the detection of drugs.

A contract is also being drawn up to cover his maintenance and veterinary care. When he is ready, he will receive his own uniform and credentials.

The project aims to respond to the new security demands that arise every day in the population, in particular the consumption of narcotics.
Kosmo will be especially useful in the search of vehicles and premises for suspected drug possession, in preventive controls in educational centres or leisure areas, in the security protocols of special events and also at an educational and prevention level, as he will participate in exhibitions in schools to raise awareness among children of the dangers of drug use.

And he looks so cute! 🙂
