Sant Antoni Fiestas – Moraira

This weekend, from the 13th to the 15th of January, the traditional Sant Antoni festival will take place in Moraira, organised by the theatre group El Portitxolet.

The events will begin on Friday 13th at 17:30 with the entrance of the Sant Antoni bonfire pine tree from El Fortí and the decoration of the church square at 19:00h.

On Saturday at 12:00h the bonfire of Sant Antoni will be set up. In the evening, at 20:00h will be the parade of the giant devil, Sant Antoni and his retinue from El Fortí.

When they arrive at the church square, there will be a theatrical performance ‘Sant Antoni i els dimonis’, the blessing and thereafter the bonfire will be lit. At 21:00h there will be a popular dinner around the bonfire with music. The neighbourhood will be able to bring their products to roast them on th fire.

Sunday 15th will begin with the ‘despertà’ at 9:00h. Then, at 10:30h, there will be a parade with the image of Sant Antoni from the Ermita de la Virgen de los Desamparados de Moraira to the church, followed by the mass of honour and blessing. At 11:15h there will be a gathering of carts and animals in the Plaza de les Sorts and at 11:30h they will take a parade to the church for the traditional blessing of the animals.

At 12:00h the ‘Dansà’ of La Marina will take place in C/Doctor Calatayud, with the participation of dance groups from various villages of La Marina Alta and surrounding areas.

At 12:30h the Muixeranga de Alicante will perform in the Plaza de les Sorts and at 13:30h the Virgen de los Desamparados Moraira 2023 Festivities Commission will be in charge of a popular meal in the Plaza de les Sorts with a musical performance.

To end the festivities, at 16:00h, the Moraira Housewives will prepare the ever popular hot chocolate.
