The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition ( Aesan ) has activated an alert for the presence of sildenafil (an active ingredient in Viagra) in a ginger-based food supplement from Romania and distributed by Amazon.es.
The POPS product (Perfect Pure Natural), has been marketed in a cardboard container with a blister of four capsules and weighing 4 grams.
The agency warns that the active substance is not declared on the label and may have pharmacological effects and pose health risks to people who take them.
According to the information available, the initial distribution has been through e-commerce, on Amazon, although it cannot be ruled out that there may be sales through other outlets.
The alert has come through a notification sent by the health authorities of Catalonia and has been transferred to the competent authorities of the autonomous communities in order to verify the withdrawal of the affected products from marketing channels.
Aesan has recommended that people who have the product affected by this alert at home refrain from consuming them .
