It is well known that Duanes de la Mar has parking problems, especially during the overcrowded summer months.
Now, taking advantage of the extension of the concession of the Yacht Club, which is being processed by the Regional Ministry of the Environment, Infrastructures and Territory and which ends in 2026, the Generalitat will take the opportunity to carry out the construction of this new site.
The Generalitat and the concessionaire of the Club Náutico have begun the preliminary testing for the development of this new infrastructure of three levels and 4,700 square metres that will house 123 parking spaces and a viewpoint in its highest part. The project is part of a project “to integrate the port area into the municipality” and will involve a significant reorganisation of the current space.
The infrastructure will be located on the esplanade that is currrently used as a storage and surface parking area, so the project “will involve a change of use and a greater optimisation of the land”, according to the Consell. The design contemplates setbacks in height, materials such as natural stone and Corten steel and landscaping with native species in staggered terraces, culminating in a pedestrian plaza above overlooking the port.
In addition, with the aim of “opening up the port to residents and tourists”, it is planned to improve the permeability of the Yacht Club buildings “with a style more in keeping with Javea.
In total, the estimated public-private investment to be made by the Generalitat and the concessionaire with the backing of the Javea Town Council amounts to more than 5 million euros. What is unknown is how this infrastructure will affect the fishing activity of the Pòsit de Pescadores.
The director general of Coasts, Ports and Airports, Marc GarcÃa Manzana, stressed that the project “will modernise the services of the current port”. Â For the mayoress, Rosa Cardona, this project will not only cover a “historical need for a lack of parking in the port area”, but will also add social and tourist value: “Residents and visitors will be able to enjoy a unique public space with a viewpoint that will offer magnificent views of the port and the bay”.
