I had not really appreciated theatre before I joined an amdram group myself back in 2015! But is it SO much fun to gather together once or twice a week and be someone else for a few hours! I had never set foot on a stage before, did not think I had the confidence to do it – but I did and have never regrettted a day of it.
April sees the talented Javea Players treading the boards in Gata Theatre with their production of Blithe Spirit. A comic play by Noel Coward, described by the author as “an improbable farce in three acts”. The play concerns the socialite and novelist Charles Condomine, who invites the eccentricmedium and clairvoyant, Madame Arcati to his house to conduct a seance, hoping to gather material for his next book. The scheme backfires when he is haunted by the ghost of his wilful and temperamental first wife, Elvira, after the séance. Elvira makes continual attempts to disrupt Charles’s marriage to his second wife, Ruth, who can neither see nor hear his ghostly first wife.
Your support means a lot to those who rehearse week after week and also helps local economies and charities, so while Javea is still pussyfooting about building (or not) the new auditorium, there are other places to go and none are that far away. So re-kindle the passion for live theatre, grab some friends and “Let Them Entertain You”.
Six performances, including one matinee, from April 22nd to April 27th 2024.
