In the face of soaring fuel prices all across Europe, the Spanish Government has announced that, from September 1st to December 31st, multi-journey train tickets are to be free.
The new policy is aimed at encouraging the use of trains, and the offer will be valid for journeys operated by Cercanías, Rodalies and Media Distancia train line that run through local and medium distances, typically up to 300 kilometres.
While there hasn’t been (yet) any official statement on what the requirements are, or how users will be able to claim such discounts, the 100% rail discounts will apply to multi-trip ticket journeys on Rodalies, Cercanías (commuter services) and Media Distancia, or other medium-distance routes (less than 300km). The measure is mainly aimed at Spanish season ticket holders but others could take advantage of it if they bought multi-journey tickets.
***Note that the measure WILL NOT include either long-distance train journeys or the high-speed lines of AVE, Avant and Avlo.**
